Eight messages about dinner become one Blurb summary: dinner at Lucia’s moved to 7:45 for four; bring Priya’s birthday card and consider taking the tram. Expand the summary to read the original messages. Choose which messaging apps get summarized. Pick on-device processing and download a Gemma model. With cloud fallback off, message text is summarized on your phone. Long chats. One short summary.

Catch up in one line

Blurb works quietly in the background. When a busy conversation settles, you get one notification instead of a pile.

1

Choose your apps

Pick the messaging apps Blurb should watch. Notifications from every other app are left alone.

2

Let the chat settle

Blurb waits until enough new text has arrived and the conversation goes quiet. You choose how long it waits.

3

Read one summary

A single notification replaces the originals. Tap it to open the conversation. New messages can fold into it while it is unread.

Your phone or your provider

Choose where summaries are made. You can switch at any time.

On your phone

Download a Gemma model once and summaries run offline. Message text stays on your phone unless you turn on cloud fallback.

One-time download of about 2.6–3.7 GB · Needs a capable phone

With your cloud provider

Use Gemini, OpenAI or Anthropic with your own API key, or your own HTTPS server. Requests go straight from your phone to the provider.

Your provider's terms and charges apply

Turn on fallback and one engine can take over when the other fails.

Works with the apps you already use

Google Messages is free. The others are part of Blurb Pro, with a free preview to try them first.

  • Signal Pro
  • Discord Pro
  • Microsoft Teams Pro
  • WhatsApp Pro
  • Telegram Pro

Blurb needs message notifications that show their text. Some apps and privacy settings hide it, and image messages aren't summarized yet. Check app details.

Private by design

Blurb reads notifications only from the apps you choose, and only to summarize them.

No account, no ads

There's nothing to sign up for, and Blurb shows no advertising.

No Blurb server

Messages go to the provider you pick, or nowhere at all in on-device mode with cloud fallback off. The developer never receives them.

Redact before upload

Optionally remove identifiers on your phone before a cloud request. It can miss some details.

Diagnostics you control

Usage diagnostics never include messages, summaries or contact names. They are on by default for new installs; turn them off in Settings.

Questions

Does Blurb read my text messages?

Only the notifications from apps you choose, and only to summarize them. Blurb doesn't read your SMS database or your contacts.

Do I need an API key?

No. On-device mode uses a downloaded model and needs no key. For cloud summaries, you bring your own key from Gemini, OpenAI or Anthropic.

Which phones does it work on?

Android 12 or newer. On-device summaries need enough free storage and memory for the model; the smaller model suits more phones.

Is Blurb Pro a subscription?

No. It's a one-time purchase through Google Play. Restore it with the same Google Play account after reinstalling or changing phones.

Why wasn't a conversation summarized?

Short conversations may not have reached the minimum length yet, and some notifications hide their text. The troubleshooting guide covers the common causes.

Can a summary be wrong?

Yes. AI summaries can miss context. Tap the summary to read the original conversation when details matter.
